Things to Bring to Your Closing

When you are about to close on a home you are trying to scramble and make sure everything is ready to begin moving or begin the work on your new property. With all of the chaos, it is hard to keep straight what you need to sign the documents and ensure the transfer goes smoothly. Although we don’t have an exhaustive list, as every closing is unique, we can offer some things that should be applicable in most circumstances:

  • Photo ID for all the Signing Parties
  • Make sure you know your Social Security Number (You don’t need to bring the Card)
  • Make sure you have the bank account number and the routing number of any bank account associated with the transaction
  • Make sure you have planned out where you will receive mail for the next month or so to ensure you will receive any documents mailed to you.
  • A Cashier’s Check if you are financing using a check as opposed to wiring the funds
  • Most importantly, bring your spouse! When you are selling, your spouse will likely have a dower interest in the property (1/3rd interest) which requires them to sign closing documents for proper transfer of the title.

Make sure that you bring any questions that remained unanswered so that you do not have to wait in the dark while the closing documents are being processed. At EQUES Title, we are always happy and eager to inform and empower our clients, so feel free to reach out at any point, no matter how insignificant you may believe your question is.
